More than a million households and commercial properties are set to benefit from an improved water supply thanks to the engineering expertise of the Burton-based engineering firm and its manufacturing and assembly facilities in Deeside, North Wales. As part of a wider strategic alliance, Franklyn Yates Engineering Ltd (FYEL) has played a key role in the upgrading of a facility in Shropshire, which serves domestic, commercial and industrial customers in Liverpool and parts of Cheshire.
A member of the Greenbank Group, FYEL has designed, supplied, and installed bespoke pipework and other components for the project as part of a contract worth in excess of £600,000.
Darron Foy, the company's Sales and Business Development Director, explained: 'The plant treats raw water from a reservoir in Wales, and thanks to our extensive experience in the industry, we became a significant partner in a major project to upgrade its UV (ultra-violet) cleansing system.
'This involved supplying around 100m of specialist pipework and associated valves, glass trap vessels - all manufactured in-house at our manufacturing facility at Connah's Quay in North Wales. The work also included the installation of 3No UV treatment containers plus all associated valves and instrumentation.
'Using specialist fabrication techniques and coating the pipe work with fusion bonded epoxy, applied by fluidised bed method to DWI Reg. 31, the pipework meets all the latest industry standards, including United Utilities engineering specification S03. The contract also included the pressure testing of the pipework after installation.'
The new system successfully went through a thorough commissioning process, and Mr Foy says he's confident that all elements of the project delivered by Franklyn Yates has exceeded expectations.
'I'm sure that our pipework and associated components will help the plant to provide enhanced water quality to millions of customers for many years to come,' he added.
Franklyn Yates became part of the Derbyshire-based Greenbank Group earlier this year, and together they now provide a wide range of services to various industries. These include power generation, transport, manufacturing, and mineral extraction and processing as well as the water and the waste-water sector.
With manufacturing facilities in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and North Wales, the Group also provides a broad range of bespoke fabrication services for a diverse range of companies.
