Sewage treatment in the mid 1800s saw an aqueduct carry sewage across the Staffordshire & Worcester canal to Barnhurst, with sewage running through shallow brick-lined tanks to provide some settlement. As the Barnhurst area expanded rapidly in the early 20th century more sewage carriers (brick sewers & earth ditches) were laid to the site and in 1923 the first screens and storm tanks were installed. To cope with ever increasing flows and load the site has gradually been adapted to provide more intensive sewage treatment.
This Severn Trent Water site now treats the waste from the equivalent of 157,000 people, which includes domestic and industrial discharges.
Working with Alfa Laval, Franklyn Yates Engineering are responsible for the unloading, positioning and securing of the 2 new G3-75 centrifuges and the associated chutes, valves and manifolds along with the removal of the existing NX4555 centrifuge from the de-sludge building, loading on to transport for removal from site and unloading and positioning in the new location after refurbishment.
The project also includes for fitting 3 new acoustic enclosures to the centrifuges after installation
