Franklyn Yates Engineering were commissioned by the Galliford Try-Costain-Atkins Joint Venture (GCA JV) on behalf of United Utilities to complete the mechanical installation on the SAL 1172 Project at Dallas Court in Manchester.
This project formed part of a cluster of schemes in the Manchester area as part of United Utilities £3.6 billion AMP5 investment programme across the North West.
The detention tank was constructed within a small site adjacent to Weaste Cemetery on one side with industrial units and offices on the other. Construction involved connecting onto the existing culvert, which transferred flows into the Manchester Ship Canal; a 21m diameter secant piled shaft was installed at a depth of 24m below ground with twin pumped rising mains routed through a congested industrial estate.
The installation will filter and screen stormwater as well as providing storage. Previously water was directed from the sewer, via a Victorian brick culvert, directly into the Manchester Ship Canal.

FYEL utilised an on-site fabrication area to manufacture all of the stainless steel pipework on site. This method was adopted due to time constraints with the project completion date and ensured a fast turnaround on all fabricated items.
FYEL worked closely with the GCA project management and design team to bring the project together on time and within budget.
